30 Mother’s Day Crafts for Kids of All Ages

Spring has finally made her long-awaited appearance on the calendar! After an exhausting and snowy winter, it’s a delight to see the cheery faces of spring bulbs finally starting to blossom. Stashing the snow pants and boots away in storage marks one of my happiest days of the year!

Another one of my happiest days in Spring will come mid-May, when we take time to celebrate our moms on Mother’s Day. As a woman who loves all things creative, I think Mother’s Day provides a lovely reason to pull out craft supplies and make something pretty! Though the stores will be filled with cards, bouquets, and keepsakes designed for Mother’s Day gifts, we all know there’s something really special about receiving a homemade gift.

So why not make a few sweet memories with your kids and work on a project for Mother’s Day together? And to help you get some ideas and inspiration, I scoured the Web and put together a list of great projects for kids both big and small. From simple handprint projects for toddlers to an easy beginner sewing project your tween could try, you’ll find something your kids can make, no matter their age.

So take a peek, pick a project (or two), and have fun celebrating the special women we call “Mom” and “Grandma.”

Crafts For Littles

1. Handprint Tote Bag

Such a sweet little project for younger kids, I’m sure any grandma would treasure this tote!

2. Mess Free Heart Art

I love the “mess-free” aspect of this project, which makes it especially well-suited for your toddler. For a fun variation, you could make a flower shape or spell out the letters “Mom” or “Grandma.”

3. Mason Jar Yarn Flowers

These cheerful and colorful yarn flowers are so simple for little crafters and tucked into a mason jar, they will brighten any mama’s day.

4. Sharpie Dot Mug

Mom (or Grandma) will love sipping her coffee in this pretty mug. And since it only requires drawing simple dots, it’s a great project for little hands.

5. Cupcake Liner Mother’s Day Card

These fun little flowers look charming on the cards above, or you could put together a whole “bouquet” of them on a large piece of construction paper.

6. Fingerprint Butterfly Mug

Another mug that’s going to melt mom’s heart, this project makes a special keepsake featuring the fingerprints of your littles.

7. Striped Straw Necklaces

Here’s an upgraded version of the familiar “pasta on a string” jewelry that toddlers love to make. Though it might not be grandma’s first choice to wear on a fancy night out, it’s sure to claim a special place in her jewelry box!

8. Pipe Cleaner Flowers Card

Toddlers can have fun swirling these cute pipe cleaner flowers together with a little “gluing” help from mom. These colorful flowers would also look charming on a simple canvas that mom or grandma can hang on the wall.

Crafts for Middles (Elementary-Age)

9. Washi Tape Kitchen Spatulas

Here’s a great way to put washi tape to work and brighten up mom’s kitchen. For a fun added touch: Buy a simple white canister to place all the utensils in, and decorate with the same colorful washi tapes.

10. Beaded Key Chain

This kid-friendly key chain craft uses a simple pipe cleaner and key ring instead of fussing with a bunch of special jewelry-making tidbits. Grab some beads in mom’s fav colors and get crafting!

11.Wooden Spoon Plant Markers

Have a mom who loves to garden? These simple plant markers would make a perfect gift. For a fun twist: Buy some potted herbs and make spoon markers with their names on them, then give to a grandma who loves to cook!

12. Perler Memo Book Covers

Are your kids Perler crazy? Here’s a great project to put those little beads to work on a Mother’s Day memo book! (Other Perler ideas: Make a set of coasters doing floral or geometric patterns. Glue a magnet to the back of flowers or butterflies made from Perler patterns. Search Google images for dozens of great pattern ideas.)

13. Crayon Candles

Crayon candles are always fun for kids to make, and they’re a great way to use up those crayons that have seen better days.

14. Coffee Filter Flowers

Melt mom’s heart with these big blooms made from coffee filters!

15. Yarn Wrapped Vase

Another fun yarn project: Just add some fresh flowers and you’re set! Or tuck in some Coffee Filter flowers (see above) for a bouquet that will never wilt.

Pretty up a plain notebook with some scrapbook papers and ribbon to create a lovely journal for grandma or mom. (There’s instructions/pics to make a washi tape version of this craft too!)

For Older Kids (Tween/Teen)
